1. Learning From Catastrophe – Mount St. Helens After 34 Years
Dr. Steve Austin has spent a lifetime studying the Grand Canyon, the origin of coal and the events at Mount St Helens. He is the author of three books including Footprints in the Ash: The Explosive Story of Mount St. Helens. Dr. Austin teaches geology at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. Serving with Logos Research Associates, Dr. Austin is on the cutting edge of research providing the scientific community with geological evidence of a global flood. He holds a B.S. degree from University of Washington, and a Ph.D. degree in geology from Penn State University. Dr. Steve Austin will point out the significance of the geological changes we see from the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980, through the new geological features that have formed over the last 34 years.

2. Catastrophic Biological Recovery – After 34 Years
Dr. Keith Swenson teaches science courses at Multnomah University. Holds a B.S. degree in zoology and M.D. degree from Washington University. Dr. Keith Swenson will explain the amazing biological recovery that occurred after the May 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens

3. Question and Answer Session

The Saturday guided tour is on and off-trail by group permit with entry wrist band only. You must be registered to participate in this tour. Substitutions need prior approval. Family rates are available upon request. Hikers will meet at the Johnston Ridge Visitors Center parking lot for check in at 9:00 am. Accountability is very important in this wilderness area. All hikers will be assigned in a group with a trail guide leader who has a walkie talkie for communications. You must stay in your group with your trail guide leader. We return to the parking lot for check out by 5:30 pm. A barbeque and fellowship time after the hike is included down the road at 7 Wonder’s Museum from 5:30 until 9 pm.The Friday Seminar is required prior to hiking. You may want to hike up and down hills at home to get in shape for these two hikes. You can customize your hike to be less aggressive by including less stations. Each participant takes all responsibility for his own health and safety. Consult a Physician to see if you are healthy enough for this hiking tour.Hike #1 Spirit Lake Overlook Guided Tour- $199
